A hail season checklist for Texas homeowners

Know your wind and hail deductible before the next storm hits.

Hail is one of the most common causes of home insurance claims in Texas. A little preparation makes a claim faster and less stressful.

Know your wind and hail deductible

Many Texas policies use a separate deductible for wind and hail, often a percentage of your dwelling coverage instead of a flat dollar amount. On a $300,000 home, a 2% deductible is $6,000.

Know how your roof is covered

Some policies pay the full replacement cost of a damaged roof, while others pay less as the roof ages. Check which applies to you.

Document before a storm

Take dated photos of your roof, siding and belongings, and keep them in cloud storage. Photos make it easier to show what was damaged.

What to do now

Send us your policy and we'll explain your deductible and roof coverage in plain language.
