Texas auto insurance minimums: what 30/60/25 really means

The state minimum is a starting point, not a recommendation.

Texas requires drivers to carry at least 30/60/25 in liability coverage. That means up to $30,000 for injuries per person, $60,000 for injuries per accident, and $25,000 for property damage.

Why the minimum can fall short

A serious accident or damage to a newer vehicle can cost more than these limits. Anything above your limits can become your responsibility.

Two coverages you must reject in writing

Texas insurers must offer personal injury protection and uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. If you don't want them, you have to reject them in writing. Many drivers keep them because they protect you and your passengers.

What to do now

Look at your declarations page and check your limits. We're happy to review it with you and quote higher limits so you can compare the cost.
